DJ C-LIVE GIVING OUT A FREE MIXTAPE!

Yes that's right one of South Africa’s well known hip hop DJs and hip hop heads, C-Live, who is also known as 5FM’s hip hop and R&B expert is releasing a free mixtape to the masses on the streets. Levi's & DJ C-Live present the launch of long awaited "Taste Maker Mixtape"! Now we have heard snippets of the mixtape, and it is BANANAS!!! Dope work from C-Live and the artists that contributed to the project.

“This is the official C-Live mixtape,” said C-Live in an interview with Wonted. “I gave this mixtape my 110% to bring out new music and promote new South African talent. There are lots of talented artists out there that need exposure, and I’m here to make sure that this mixtape does exactly that.”

The mixtape has talents such as AKA, Blaklez, Kwesta, Ifan, Hydro, Morale and a lot more artists. Working on the album was great says C-Live.

“Wow... it was really great working on the mixtape and I’d say that the biggest challenge for me was getting the artists in studio at the same time to record a track. But yeah it was really dope and I had so much fun. Look out for the two singles that are really hot”

C-Live will be launching the mixtape this Friday at Latinova in Rosebank. It’s bound to be a wild party with AKA performing a couple of songs and Metro FM’s DJ Naves and the Naked DJ on the wheels of steel. DJ Fanatic will also be on the 1s and 2s. Look out for this up and coming DJ, he got something for you!

“I just want people to come have fun. It’s gonna be crazy. Some of the artists that featured on the mixtape will be there, so come meet them, network and alles. This is gonna be a fun party and the mixtape will be available at the party for free! I’d urge people to come early to get their copies of the mixtape”

Doors open at 22h00 and no under 21s allowed. Dress code is dripping with swag!

LIFESTYLE: Mini Countryman heads to SA shores

The much anticipated Mini Copper Countryman is finally heading down to SA shores in 2011. This beauty is the first 4-door Mini Cooper out of the full range since the car came gained momentum and popularity locally and internationally.

The Countryman is the first Mini to come with four doors and a large tailgate, as well as an interior offering space for up to five people. The new Countryman is also the first member of the Mini family with a body measuring more than four metres in length and which can be ordered as an option with all-wheel drive.

With these features, in addition to the Countryman’s raised seating position, the new car intends to take the Mini brand into new dimensions and win over additional target groups.

Two petrol-powered models will available when the car goes on sale later this year. Both the Mini Cooper Countryman and the Mini Cooper S Countryman, are powered by the brand’s proven 1,6-litre engine, producing 90 kW and 135 kW respectively.

The optional Mini All4 all-wheel drive allows the driving fun to continue off the beaten track as well. The permanent all-wheel-drive system’s quick response to changing conditions promises to deliver new handling talents for which MINI is famed. An electromagnetic centre differential positioned directly on the final drive varies the distribution of power seamlessly between the front and rear axles. The All4 system is available for the Cooper S Countryman only.

REVIEW: Top summer tracks to blaze

In my previous music review I blogged about 2010 albums you must get for summer, well I decided to go blog about track from some of those albums that you'll should be banging in your iPods, cd players and etc. These are some the tracks blazing on radio stations across the country and these are epic on the dance floor(I even lost my voice singing along to these).

1 Stimela ft Thandiswa Mazwai- Turn on the sun(black Coffee Remix)

Stimela did a great collabo with Thandiswa Mazwai for their reunion and Black Coffee remixes the track. Indeed Black Coffee is a superman, this track packs nothing but good beats(Coffee style) that will make anyone and I mean anyone to love this track.

2. Dj Mbuso ft Harrison Crump-Oh yeah

The Maf&So creator(remember Mbuso's Revenge, Soul Candi Session 1) and the former Soul Candi co-owner Dj Mbuso has produced a great track with collaborations from International Dj Harrison Crump. This hit track is taken from Mbuso's latest album, The Reconstruction after a long drought from the Mbuso fix.

3. N'Dinga Gaba/Shafi-Summer Breeze

Foliage Records brings you a delicious taster of Baltimore boys N'dinga Ngaba and Sahffi with “Summer Breeze.” The full release of Summer Breeze is set to appear in the early Summer of 2011. The track was number 1 on the Yfm Top 40 count down is the most requested track on the YFM playlist. Currently, ther track is taken from Afro Fashion Lounge and this track is the definite soundtrack for summer.

4. Oskido ft Proffessor-Born with the Microphone

Veteran House DJ na d YFM's very on expert on dance music, Oskido is back with another banger called Born with the Microphone. This track is on Oskido's ChurchGrooves 10 which includes his own production, renowned house classics, and up-and-coming producers. The man has paid his dues, and is now giving new talent a chance to shine. Teaming up with Kalawa Jazmee player Professor, makes this one of the hottest combinations at the moment.

5. Kanye West ft Rihanna-All the lights

Ok, I'll admit I'm all for local music and I buy local music at any given opportunity and I coukd have made this review about local club bangers but I decided to add something international from on of my favourite Rappers, Kanye West. All the lights is the second single from West's new album A Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and this track making wonders amongs most hip hop lovers and on the dancefloor.

Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010

For one week, millions of young people around the world will join a growing movement of entrepreneurial people, to generate new ideas and to seek better ways of doing things. Countries across six continents are coming together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. To think big. To turn their ideas into reality. To make their mark.

From 15 - 21 November 2010, Global Entrepreneurship Week will connect young people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. Students, educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, employees, non-profit leaders, government officials and many others will participate in a range of activities, from online to face-to-face, and from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings.

Through this initiative, the next generation of entrepreneurs will be inspired and can emerge. In doing so, they will begin to acquire the knowledge, skills and networks needed to grow innovative, sustainable enterprises that have a positive impact on their lives, their families and communities.

Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009 was a great success and a brilliant example of what can be achieved by bringing together different ideas and cultures around the theme of enterprise. In 2010, we aim to unleash young people's ideas around the issues that matter most to society, from poverty reduction through to climate change, and to foster a global culture which recognises entrepreneurs as drivers of economic and social prosperity.

Learn more about Global Entrepreneurship Week on http://www.unleashingideas.org/

The Wits Business School’s Centre for Entrepreneurship is a co-host for Global Entrepreneurship Week in South Africa. During the week we will be hosting a range of events and activities designed to promote and stimulate entrepreneurship among South African youth and communities.

Seven days, four goals

  • Inspire. We introduce entrepreneurship to young people under the age of thirty who otherwise might not have considered it as a career path.
  • Connect. We network young people and organisations across national boundaries to discover new ideas at the intersection of cultures and disciplines.
  • Mentor. We enlist active and inspiring entrepreneurs around the world to coach and mentor the next generation of enterprise talent as they pursue their dreams.
  • Engage. We demonstrate to opinion leaders and policymakers how entrepreneurship is central to a nation's economic health and culture, and give them the opportunity to learn about each other's entrepreneurial policies and practices

ENTERTAINMENT: Red Bull Kasi Crawl

Music, dance, fashion, poetry… it’s all going down at the Red Bull Kasi Crawl, a one-of-kind, one-day street festival celebrating the heart, soul and spirit of township culture.

On Saturday 6 November join us in Soweto’s famous Vilakazi Street, home to not one, but two Nobel Prize winners – Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu – and experience a brand new history in the making!

Feel the rhythm of eKasi as Red Bull pays tribute to those, young and old, who have been instrumental in Mzansi’s miraculous story. Celebrate the then and the now, as we look to the past as the inspiration for our future.

In true, pan-African style, Kasi Crawl brings you 4 stages, each hosted by a local icon from the worlds of House, Hip Hop, Dancehall and Kwaito:

• The Party People stage presented by the ever-popular Hip Hop scholar and innovator, DJ Kenzhero
• The Music Light Love stage with ex- Red Bull Music Academy participant and world record holding DJ (he played for 60 hours with one arm), the one, the only, Black Coffee. Having personally selected his favourite South African House line-up, this promises to be a day of House you don’t want to miss.
• The African Storm stage with curators, Admiral and Jah Seed. Purveyors of the reggae dancehall scene in South Africa since 1997 with their sounds of Buju, Sizzla, Marley, Tosh and other reggae legends, who else but this formidable pair could be called upon to ‘run tings’ on the reggae stage?
• And finally, the Keep Soweto Alive stage where you’ll find House, Kwaito and the sounds of the ‘kasi’ alive and kicking!

You’ll also find a feast of fashion, with one-off stalls from Thesis Social Jam, Africa Mutu Arts and Dankie San; a beer garden, shish’nyama and much, much more,

Below is a map of the venue and all entrance to the event.

Kaizen: HOW TO BEHAVE ON THE FRONT ROW OF FASHION SHOWS

Guys we saw and also loved the past S.A fashion weeks right? And most of us were sitting on the front row right? and some of yo'll were even ready to put on their boxing gloves for those FREE seats right? But question is are you doing it right, and if you didnt know what and not what to do read on........

THE TEN GOLDEN RULES:

1.Do make sure you have the permission to be seated on that specific seat, there is nothing more embarassing than to be moved by the rightful occupant of the seat(ask me i have moved a few)

2. Do wear shades the more branded the better(even if its dark)

3. Do fold your legs.

4.Please do look hot(hot does not mean trashy and clown-like)

5.Ladies I REPEAT fold your legs i saw big things at the AFI........

6.DO NOT clap more than 5 times if you like a specific outfit.

7.DO NOT,I REPEAT DO NOT scream out the models name on the ramp its not only irritating and distructing to the model but also to the ones sitting next to you.

8.Do not take pictures of yourselves on the front row(rather wait for media to take one thats if you looking hot)it also exposes you that you used to such events.

9.OK Ok please be youself because the fashion week will come to an end and we will watch you like a hawk if you were faking it

10.DO NOT WEAR FAKE INTERNATIONAL DESIGNER BAGS PEOPLE OF MZANZI.IF YOU THINK WE DO NOT KNOW ITS FAKE ASKIES BUT WE KNOW!!!

Hanging out with Shekeshe 'Shakes' Mokgosi

By Nhlanhla Molepo

After countless phone calls and arrangements, I finally manage to get Shakes to do an interviews for the empowerment section. We agree to meet at Sopiatown in Newtown

The interview day approaches and I'm nervous(call it pre-interview paranoia), but I come to my senses as I start the interview.

Dressed in a Lyle&Scott sweater, Carducci pants, shirts and Shoes, Shekeshe Mokgosi is a busy man with a hectic schedule.

‘Shakes’ as he is known by colleagues and friends around Jozi’s social circle is a Project Manager at Absolute Change which is a change management consultancy and human resource development and training organisation.

Kaizen got talking about him and his career and how he started out, so here’s what went down.

Who is Shekeshe ‘Shakes’ Mokgosi

Well...Shakes is a 35 year old socialite and a hard worker. I’m actually a project manager at Absolute Change.

What does a day in your life entail?

My day at the office starts with follow ups on current projects. I have to make sure that we stick to the budget, track some of our milestones, ensure that the are enough resources for the project and report back to the client. By reporting back to the client we deal with the current issues, goals and then make recommendations. So communication is very important in my line of work.

Why did you decide on this career?

I actually worked for government in the finance sector handling a number of projects after getting my junior degree. Whilst working Wits University was starting an Equity development unit and I got a call from them (Wits) saying that they would like me to be part of the unit.

Here we taught graduates with Masters and PHD’s life-skills basically this unit was more focused on capacity building. Then the Oprah Winfrey organisation called me to help them set up an orphanage this side which proved to be difficult due to the red tape so whilst handling this project, I was asked to be part of the team building the Oprah Winfrey Academy of Leadership. I managed the construction of the school building and from there I became a project manager.

I then later joined Absolute Change. But me being a project manager would have not been possible had I not been part of the Equity Development unit.

Looking stylish as ever

Growing up, who did you idolise

I always looked up to my great uncle, who funny enough I was named after (Shekeshe). My great uncle was the first to go to varsity and what I idolised the most is that despite his achievements he still manages to be humble. Besides him, I’m always inspired by other people’s qualities both formal and informal.

What have been the biggest career moves you’ve made?

Well..like I said I started in government, I then moved to Wits for the Equity Development unit. From there I became a part of the task team responsible for the construction of the Oprah Winfrey School and then I moved to Absolute Change. So I’ve made some big changes from finance to University to construction and then project manager.

What type of person is best suited for this career

I would say this career requires a person who is a socialite, one must be a people’s person, must be patient, a mediator, must ensure team effectiveness and best of all should possess leadership skills.

What growth aspects are in this career?

There are many growth aspects in project management. Every business and government department has a project management division, so it’s relatively easy for one to work and to merge into other career fields.
