BESPOKE:MILAN FASHION WEEK HIGHLIGHT

Kaizen Lifestyle's fashion editor Tshepang Sebulela gives us some of his highlights from the Milan Fashion week, which took place about a week ago. Here are some of his highlights:

About a week ago Milan was definitely the place to be as the Milan Fashion Week took place with shows like Burberry, YSL and Dsquared. Speaking of the Dsquared, the creators who happen to be twins Dean and Dan Caten showcased their 2012 Spring/Summer collection and left everyone there amazed. Their collection was inspired by a fictional American tourist, arriving in Europe for a summer trip passing by countries like Mykonos, Florence and even London.

The collection had lots of color in bomber jackets, fitted leather biker jackets and logo t shirts which I thought were now out of season. I personally loved the bright neon colored slim fitted pants paired with gladiator sandals, however I am not sure about those tiny swimming trunks though. The collection as a whole is wearable with that funky ski inspired flavor; it also included classic casual items like slim fit blazers, white crisp shirts and skinny ties.

THE DOLCE AND GABBANA SPRING/summer 2012

We also saw the Dolce and Gabbana unleash their Spring/ Summer 2012, to be honest I am in two minds with their latest collection. I don't know if I like or loathe it because like a lot people in the fashion industry I thought the collection is nothing different from what we have seen before.

Slim fit dark suits, skinny ties, and white shirts. This year they loosed up the fit of the shirts and the suit pants were a bit loose fitting too. I tried to be open minded and that's when I started appreciating the clean simple LOOSE lines, they are doing a good job at trying to reintroduce the loose tailoring trend.

The texture used on this collection is what stood out for me more than anything; the texture was inspired by the nets of Sicilian fishermen, showing lots of square weaves layered or just bare. They also used conservative colors and stayed away from our summer colors.

KAIZEN GROOMING: Winter Grooming Tips

Men have evolved from the old days of soap bars and washcloths and embraced on skin care products. This has seen more men wanting to know more about skin care treatment and what the best product in the market to use is.

Let me first educate the difference between male and the female counterpart. We all know that male skin has a thicker epidermis (skin outer layer) and the dermis (inner layer of the skin). It is also prone to heavier oil glands and this makes male skin more different.

Male skin is 20% thicker, more toned, contains more collagen and elastin, there is more activity in the sebaceous glands (oil producing gland) and it ages later.
So the regular skin care products aimed at women will not be effective when used by male skin. The need for products that work but also a quick fix.

However not wanting to follow the skin care regime consisting of cleansing, toning, exfoliating, and mask and moisturising, they want to wash and go.

The simple truth is if you don't exfoliate by removing the dead cells and debris, no moisturise will be able to penetrate efficiently making any product less effective.
The point about the product isn't about the price but how effective is it for your skin.

Here are a few selections that would suit all types of males:

One which you need to win the lottery first: Elemis R1080, La prairie cleanser R850

Enterpreneur: Clarins R360, Lab serious R470

The 9-5 type of guy:Loreal men expert R160 and Nivea R110

The student in tertiary Michael game R85

DEVELOPMENT:Starting a business with small or no capital.

Starting a business will always cost you money, but there are ways of doing it that could prevent you from having to come up with a lump sum. Here's how.

1. If you have a job, don't quit.
You can use your current salary to start up the business. Find out what prospective customers think of your idea and whether there is a market for your product.

2. Draft a business plan and stick to it:
Start working on a business plan as soon as your ideas begin to come together. Develop this plan as your ideas change. It's important to have a business plan as this determines how your business will make money, it describes your target market, how you will reach that target market and when do you expect to make a profit. This makes it easier for your business to reach it's goal.

3. Handle all the admin work
By admin we mean attending to all the regulatory requirements early, such as registration, tax clearance, bank account, so that you don't waste valuable selling time once your business is launched.

4. Get your business system in order:
We all aniticipate launching our business and having a big party to showcase what our business can offer and why people should know about it, however don't launch before you have systems in place for things like record-keeping, invoicing, bookkeeping and customer care. These will keep your business running while you focus on growing your client base.

5.Build up sales before you launch:
Ideally, get a few regular customers before you go into the business full-time, to build up a customer base. This will eventually help with getting more customers and growing your business.

6. Get some suppliers on your side:
Most businesses requires suppliers to operate such as computers, printers, stock etc. See whether your suppliers will give you a few months in which to pay while you are starting up. This way, you don't have to get loans to buy supplies.

7.Start gradually:
There may be certain products or services that sell better than others, with less infrastructure and capital outlay. Start with these and get the cash flowing. There are a number of ways of getting funding such as borrowing money from family and friends.

There are a few things that you must always keep in mind:

DON'T be too relaxed about financial agreements.
DON'T ignore the possibility of failure.
DON'T ask for more than you can afford.
DO keep them regularly updated.
DO be open to their advice.
DO consider being mentored.
Always have a plan of action.

Weekend Recap: YFM Youth Day Celebration

By Nhlanhla Molepo
Images by Irvin "Nyfe" Khumalo

To commemorate 35 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising against Bantu Education and Racism and also to mark 14 years since the existence of YFM, the station hosted a Youth Day Celebration Party. The event promised a night of music, dance, fashion and live performances and indeed the youth station lived up to it's those expectations. The event was held at the Bus Factory in Newtown and the venue was packed with attendants kept up with the theme which was High School Glam and Warm Winter Elegant as most were wearing their school blazers, white shirts and ties. Spotted a couple of celebrities basking in the warmth of the VIP area which was packed to the rafters maybe because of the free booze in the VIP area, but a great place to mingle and make contacts.

Attendants on the dance floor were bedazzled by spectacular live performances from Professor, Nothende, Tumi(Of Tumi and The Volume), Relo and Stoan. The biggest highlight of the night was the live fashion show by local South African label's Diamond Face Couture (DFC), Thula Sindi, Gert-Johan Coetzee and streetwear label Strusbob which has released some trucker caps with the yfm logo. YFM dj's Josi Chave, Just Mo, Mo flava along with Dimplez and Dj Tira kept the dance floor on fire. We partied till the Bus Factory had to closed and of course YFM lived up to its party reputation.

Kaizen Review: AL CAPONE AT THE CAVALLI VODKA LAUNCH (part 2)

Kaizen Review: AL CAPONE AT THE CAVALLI VODKA LAUNCH

When we heard that Mr. Roberto Cavalli's vodka is launching in South Africa, we had to be part of this event which we did. Under the dress code "Al Capone black" on we made our way to FTV Cedar Square as freezing as it was.

The guest list was indeed star studded with the likes of fashion gurus Ephraim of ephymol, Olebogeng of House of Ole, Penny lebyane, Nothende, Thapelo mokoena all dressed to the nines. As expected Cavalli vodka was flowing like holy water so was the uber food being served by hot ladies in nothing but bikinis and body paint and the ladies too were treated to some eye candy with the gents in underwear and body paint.

As usual I always look at how the guests were dressed, a lot of them were dressed like Italian mafias and Italian fashion mafia wives very impressive. I spotted lots of trenches, fur coats, black suits, hats and gloves the jozi people really looked Italian. Indeed this was fashion on the rocks at it's best.

Kaizen Lifestyle Magazine @ the Castle Lite Event

The Castle Lite Cold Room Explosion was held at the Golf Park in Fourways. This was the third on-going event that brought people to come and mingle while they were pampered with good food, drinks and beautiful music. Dj Franky, Dj Fresca, Fistaz Mixwell and the Naked Dj did their thing on the decks while Slikour and Kwesta gave us a live performance.

The Castle Lite ladies surely did a good job making their guests to feel at home as they mingled and kept updating everyone about the competition which Castle Lite and Blackberry were running. People got a fair chance to enter the competition and winners were announced during the event and I'm happy to say one of the Kaizen team won himself a Cooler box with a Blackberry phone. Also there were games such as Nintendo and people got an opportunity to play Golf all for free because Castle Lite is extra cool like that.

One has to give a big Prop to Castle Lite for hosting a chilled out session. People who would like to know more about the upcoming events that Castle Lite will be hosting they can simply go to the Castle Lite coldroom explosion Page on Facebook and join in. You too can probably see yourself on the guest list; you better do that because so far this is the coolest event happening in the streets of Jozi!!!!

Antherline Boutique launch

Thursday night was the launch party for Antherline Boutiwue which took place at Newgate Mall which is direct opposite Bree Taxi Rank. Antherline Boutique which is owned by fashionista and designer Matome Seshoka presented some elegant designer garments for ladies. These dresses varied from evening gowns, cocktail dresses and etc. With the Durban July around the corner, Antherline boutique;s creation are perfect for those who need a beautifula garment to attend the race horse event without having to dig deep into their pockets.

The launch had a fashion show which presented the garment with different themes which was great to give us a feel of what type of garments are being presented and what type of women is more likely to wear these. However the sound was really bad and what made it even worse was the mc who kept on describing the garments and ululating all the models who came out of the dressing room.

The deejay kept on playing Beyonce's new single which was great the first but not-so-cool the third time. In my experience attending fashion shows, it's best to let the music describe the type of clothes on the runway, having an mc with bad sound do all of that is not great.

One of the guest even suggested that if they wanted a fashion show where people would be standing up, then it wasn't necessary that they have table and chairs next to the red carpet which was the runway.

However, despite the glitch with the mc, sound and the runway, the whole launch was great. Guests were served wine, champagne and finger snacks.

BESPOKE: Why I miss summer

A former colleague of mine sent me these two pictures during the week. Immediately when I got these I just had sudden flashbacks of summer 2010 and all the fashion.

Can't wait for summer again, although that's a couple of months away.

Kaizen Lifestyle hangs out @ Fashion Friday

Since the first instalment of fashion Friday much hype has been put about this event which happens every Friday that we just had to check it out for ourselves. Fashion Friday happens every first Friday at 70 Juta Street, home to David Tlale's concept store, Twenty Two and other notable stores, however because of the winter season the exhibit was held at Greyscale Studio's which is a spray shop /tattoo studio/clothing store.

Well by now you must be wondering what fashion Friday is? ''Fashion Friday is a celebration of South African design, art, food and music''. Every exhibition showcases new designers from across South Africa and it;s where fashionable people get to meet, talk, take pictures, have food and shop. Well that's exactly what we did and here are a few pics we took at the exhition.
