In dedication to the upcoming SA Fashion Week we look at the Business Of Fashion .Since the first show in 1997 held at the Sandton Square with only 10 of the country’s most established designers at the time showcasing. The South African Fashion Week has grown and survived, from parting ways with its long time main Sponsor (SANLAM) a few years ago to putting on some of the most spectacular shows in the country at some beautiful and historic venues. It seems this was the birth of an official fashion industry in South Africa, over the years there’ve been many fashion weeks and many designers.




This year’s SAFW, boasts a line-up of over 30 talented fashion designers which always makes for great excitement to all fashion enthusiasts.



SAFW introduced the buyers lounge an initiative to not only keep focus on the glamour of the event but to assist designers by exposing them to the core business of the industry. Which is the distribution and retailing of their merchandise as it is integral in expanding their brands. This also gets the designers to start taking their art as an actual income generating business that has growth potential and is a participant in the sustainability of our economy.



It also inspires young, aspiring designers and entrepreneurs to want to get into the industry. I think this was a great idea and it will steer fashion in South Africa in the right direction.

So international fashion icon and head designer for Christian Dior John Galliano is racist and loves Hitler?

Well that is according to a you tube video. The very flamboyant designer was arrested on February 25 for throwing anti-Semitic insults at a couple on a night out in Paris. The designer was later taken to a police station for sobriety tests, the state prosecutor recommended his release and charges were not filed this is according to a Britain’s Guardian newspaper.

Galliano 50 was fired at the house of Dior as head designer last Tuesday and his Paris fashion week runway show has been called off. “Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologize for my behavior in causing any offence” those are the words of Galliano himself. Question on the international fashion world is who will replace this amazingly talented designer at Dior?

Kaizen: HOW TO BEHAVE ON THE FRONT ROW OF FASHION SHOWS

Guys we saw and also loved the past S.A fashion weeks right? And most of us were sitting on the front row right? and some of yo'll were even ready to put on their boxing gloves for those FREE seats right? But question is are you doing it right, and if you didnt know what and not what to do read on........

THE TEN GOLDEN RULES:

1.Do make sure you have the permission to be seated on that specific seat, there is nothing more embarassing than to be moved by the rightful occupant of the seat(ask me i have moved a few)

2. Do wear shades the more branded the better(even if its dark)

3. Do fold your legs.

4.Please do look hot(hot does not mean trashy and clown-like)

5.Ladies I REPEAT fold your legs i saw big things at the AFI........

6.DO NOT clap more than 5 times if you like a specific outfit.

7.DO NOT,I REPEAT DO NOT scream out the models name on the ramp its not only irritating and distructing to the model but also to the ones sitting next to you.

8.Do not take pictures of yourselves on the front row(rather wait for media to take one thats if you looking hot)it also exposes you that you used to such events.

9.OK Ok please be youself because the fashion week will come to an end and we will watch you like a hawk if you were faking it

10.DO NOT WEAR FAKE INTERNATIONAL DESIGNER BAGS PEOPLE OF MZANZI.IF YOU THINK WE DO NOT KNOW ITS FAKE ASKIES BUT WE KNOW!!!
